The Kappa's are extremely difficult to see behind, thus each Kappa is getting a $114 BC-30 camera system installation (Garmin's part number and bought on eBay). I move my GPS units between our four vehicles. I have used my daughter's car that is equipped with a backup camera system, and I do believe I will need some time using the system to get accustom to the view. And I don't expect it to be flawless in a rain storm, if the occasion does catch me out. So far, my expectations involve daylight use. It would be hard to imagine how this unit could do any more as a backup camera. Currently, I have a 55LM and a 51DriveSmart.Ģ) Both current GPS's are compatible with Garmin's WiFi backup camera system, BC-30.ģ) There is no dash installation needed, everything exists in the GPS & ready to go.Ĥ) The shop install was just over $50 for the camera end at the rear.ĥ) The minute power came to the camera and the coupe was put in reverse, a picture came up on the GPS in a very clear, long range view. Resolution is terrible, brick wall 15 feet from my garage is a red blur, rain drops completely washes out the picture, pairing is flaky, sometime it pairs and sometime it doesn't, unless I shut the car off and start the sequence all over again, and YES I'm running the latest software. Uploaded latest software, unpaired and paired camera, installed new WiFi receiver power cord. Worked for about 2 weeks with Garmin customer support to troubleshoot. Final test was to drive around with the GPS in a vehicle that did not have the camera installed (Nuvi with WiFi receiver power cord only). The black screen goes away as you exit the range of the interfering WiFi signal. Tested theory by driving around with a WiFi signal sensor and found a direct correlation between the black screen and high density of Wifi signals. While driving, the GPS will be triggered by other WiFi signals, go to camera mode and display a black screen. Unfortunately camera suffers from interference from other WiFi signals. Not a lot of very positive reviews on Amazon for the Garmin with their BC30 backup camera!
